Kids 8-17 can learn about aviation and take a free introductory flight (usually over Lake Lanier, or Stone Mountain) at the Chapter 690 hangar each third Saturday of the month, weather permitting.
Fallen Heroes Memorial

Located on the grounds of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett’s Fallen Heroes Memorial pays tribute to all Gwinnett residents who died in the line of duty in military or public safety service. From native Americans “who were the first to love this land,” to the most recent casualties, the memorial honors about 700 individuals. Their names are carved on 13 black granite markers, which are nine feet tall and weigh almost four tons each. A central pedestal features a Gwinnett firefighter’s bronze sculpture of an eagle carrying a rose.

Gwinnett History Museum and Lawrenceville Female Seminary

The museum, housed in the Lawrenceville Female Seminary, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in the 1830s, it was first used as a finishing school for the county’s young women. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the original structure, and a new building was constructed in 1855. The Gwinnett History Museum currently includes exhibits on farm life, textiles, religion, schools, traditional music, and Civil War satirist Bill Arp. Other displays relate to and interpret life in Gwinnett County.
Gwinnett Veterans War and Memorial Museum at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse

The Gwinnett Veterans Memorial Museum is a tribute to all brave men and women who have defended our land and liberties from the Revolutionary War to the present, including the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf Wars, and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Collect maps, brochures & guides, and get suggestions on what to see and do at the new Lawrenceville. Built circa 1893, the Lawrenceville Visitors Center is also designated as the Mayor Jule Oakes House. The historic home was dedicated by the City of Lawrenceville in memory of Jule Oakes who served as Mayor of Lawrenceville for two years (1949-1950) and lived in the home for many years. For visitors interested in history and architecture, the Lawrenceville Visitors Center features photographs of Mayor Jule Oakes and family and original coal burning fireplaces and woodwork.
